Rancho Cordova, CA HANGTOWN MOTOCROSS CLASSIC
Founded in 1968 by the Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club, the Hangtown Motocross Classic has grown from a small local race into California’s oldest and boldest motocross event. First held at Murray’s Ranch near Placerville, the race now takes place at Prairie City SVRA in Rancho Cordova and remains the only AMA National Motocross Championship round organized by a motorcycle club. With a legacy built on racing, community and tradition, Hangtown continues to inspire new generations of riders and fans.
The Hangtown Motocross Legacy
Born from a handful of passionate riders in 1968, the Hangtown Motocross Classic has grown into one of the most respected and enduring races in American motocross. What started as a grassroots competition quickly became the benchmark for professionalism, excitement and community spirit.
Today, Hangtown is celebrated not just for its fierce racing but for the festival-style atmosphere that draws fans, families and industry partners from across the country. Each year new riders and generations of spectators experience the oldest and boldest stop on the AMA National Motocross Championship calendar.
With over five decades of history at Prairie City SVRA, Hangtown remains the only national round organized by a motorcycle club. The Dirt Diggers North MC continues to uphold the tradition of safety, integrity and camaraderie that make this event a true icon of the sport.
